Sub has the subtle quality the original has. Both the words and the voice. Sad I can't read Japanese, so personally I'm unable to say how well the sub's English translation captures the original. That subtlety and quietness the translation and voice have is so important to the quiet quality of TSHD

It works a lot through allusion and subtext, so the translation needs to convey these in the way they were delivered in the original

Man...this is all a nightmare. I never stopped just using fansubs and their uploads from nyaa, but i know a lot of people these days dont know how to torrent or find quality translation groups. :/ but this shows the major problem with a company lile crunchyroll having such a huge monopoly on anime

I haven't, but I've been meaning to for some time. Now that you mention it, I'll find time to watch it this weekend. I just know it's a great film. Kore-eda is known for his unapologetic realism. You should watch Farewell, My Concubine. Superb film. Leslie Cheung was sublime in it. You'd like it. 😊
