Thiel talked about Carl Schmitt being one of his ideological heroes that forms part of his core beliefs. Why do we treat anything he says as anything more than utter nonsense?

We need to take *our* war memorial back. It doesn’t belong to Brendan Nelson and his ilk with their one-eyed view of Australian military history. It should have a clear truth-telling focus and include a significant Frontiers War exhibit. It’s time to clean out the AWM.

The planning assumptions are sobering. According to the guidance reported by Le Canard, hospitals should be able to absorb between 10,000 and 50,000 wounded personnel over a 10- to 180-day window, depending on how a crisis unfolds. That doesn't mean such numbers are expected; it means the system must be able to cope if they arrive. Translation for hospital managers: free up beds at pace, rehearse reception and triage, know which wards can flip to trauma, and map out evacuation pathways from the bedside to the aircraft ramp. The letter even touches on the human side of a long haul - staffing rotas that can survive months of pressure and psychological support for teams living on adrenaline. There's a clear training push, too. Staff should be briefed on 'wartime constraints' - think scarce supplies, sudden surges in demand and disrupted logistics - and refreshed on trauma care, including post-traumatic stress and rehabilitation medicine for complex injuries. In parallel, medics from across the system are encouraged to join the Military Health Service (Service de santé des armées) to strengthen front-line capacity.

In Sydney local councils erect giant offensively coloured signs in front of properties that chop down or poison trees to create views of the harbour/ocean. Another method is putting in shipping containers and painting them.

Two shipping containers laid end-to-end have been placed in the gap where public trees were cut down to create a better ocean view. They have been painted in colourful native bird scenes. The containers have now satisfyingly blocked the view for the offending property owner.

The Gillard govt had a specific policy to raise the number of low-ses students getting into and graduating from uni through demand-driven funding. The target was 20% of offers being made to and accepted by low-ses students by 2020. They were doing pretty well but Abbott basically killed it in 2017.
The Gillard Labor government aimed to increase university participation among students from low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds. This was achieved through various mea-sures, including the establishment of the demand-driven funding system and increased funding for The universities to expand places and provide support for low SES stu-dents. Here's a more detailed look: Demand-Driven Funding: The Gillard government introduced a demand-driven funding system, removing quotas on university places and allowing universities to enroll as many students as they wished. In December 2017, Australia's demand-driven funding system for universities was effectively frozen, meaning that the total funding for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) for bachelor degree courses was capped at 2017 levels for the years 2018 and 2019. While the cap was slightly increased in 2020, it was tied to universities meeting performance targets yet to be announced. This change marked a significant shift from the previous system where universities could receive funding for as many domestic undergraduate students as they enrolled.

That's not even an option now. Feels like the ladder is being pulled up behind us. Is this happening at other places too? Are companies just done investing in junior talent now? Would be good to hear if others are seeing similar stuff at their companies. Or if this is just us slowly circling the drain?
