You can request copies of San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie's texts to the director of the city's Public Works department from Public Works.

But if you ask the mayor's office? They don't exist.

Here's why that's concerning open government advocates:

A lot more protest sign creativity than I usually see, at this rally to save Muni funding at San Francisco City Hall this morning ...

"Don't DOGE Muni" elicited a lot of "right ons"

Hours after Daniel Lurie was inaugurated as mayor Wednesday, he tried to light a firecracker outside a Chinatown restaurant.

Moments later, EMTs escorted a woman into an ambulance as blood poured from her head.

Lurie has his transition team members sign ethical codes of conduct.

But an attorney who once served as the SF Ethics Commission president ... Paul Melbostad ... told me these were legally "meaningless."

Lurie and Altman both said they did not discuss tax breaks.

Notably, Daniel Lurie ran on a platform against City Hall insider corruption, a rampant SF problem.

But his top transition team pick - Altman - can now influence future tax policy or City Hall new hires who would do the same.

It's the ultimate inside access.

The SF Ethics Commission has a robust lobbyist database.

Its records show OpenAI lobbied SF gov about taxes this year between March and October.

These screenshots show they reached the mayor's office, SF's chief financial officer, and more.

They said no.
