We took a wee trip to Alloa last Saturday on a day when most of the games around the country were called off because of the Baltic weather. We were well warmed up by the welcome we received at Recreation Park, and treated to a great game V Queen of the South, ending one each.
Now named Inodrill Stadium, Recreation Park dates back to 1895! These lads formed part of the noisy Ultra group and were a good laugh! A relic of a bygone age. I’ve seen these turnstiles in museums but to actually go through one was an unexpected privilege. Think of the numbers of people that have passed through these turnstiles over the generations, each with their own hopes and dreams, following the Wasps over the decades. I’m standing on a traditional ash and gravel terrace here, which had loads of inclusions within it of bricks, metal, fag ends and broken glass, accumulated over the decades, assembling memories of supporters, hopes, dreams and the stuff they left behind.
