This is honestly why I stopped being a libertarian 10 years ago - the realization that AI will be the end of work, and capitalism has no answer for what to do next when there is no need for the bulk of humanity to work, and nothing they can do that will produce enough value to warrant a living wage.

On the bright side, everyone else's business is _also_ dependent on Cloudflare and either AWS or Azure. Really, there's about 5 companies that back the entire Internet and are single points of failure.

I also don't know how much anyone outside of old Democratic consultants actually wants this. I think they're fixated on "how can we win the mythical centrist voter who thinks Trump and Harris are about equally acceptable" and think this is how, not realizing that their own voters are not intersted.

She's animated output backed by a large technical team, and is directed like a special effects studio, not like an actor. The fact that she's the output of AI tools and data scientists rather than 3d modeling tools and graphic artists is irrelevant!

I just looked it up... it's not even a real pizza place! Hunt Brothers Pizza is apparently a by-the-slice kiosk inside gas station convenience stores, and they're counting it as a pizza chain.

I think so. I grew up in Indiana, my family lives there and I still visit frequently. None of us have ever heard of Hunt Brothers Pizza.

Why does every Democratic think tank always think the way to win elections is to be Republicans? Republicans don't win elections by moving toward the center. The country is so divided now there _are_ no centrist voters; you win election by getting your base to actually vote.

But saying "we're afraid if a progressive wins the primary, they'll lose the general to a moderate" sounds better than "we're afraid if a progressive wins the primary, they'll win and prove political conventional wisdom is no longer accurate, and then nobody will ever listen to us again."

They want to win elections, but Democratic leadership -- milquetoast neoliberal compromisers who think "maintain the status quo" is an inspiring rallying cry -- are terrified of electing candidates that somebody actually likes, and thus being sidelined forever.

I love Crimson Peak, but when recommending it to people I always describe it as "It's not really horror, it's Gothic -- it's using the visual motifs of horror but it's not actually scary." The cinematography is fantastic, I think studios just didn't know how to market a Gothic non-horror film.

I tried this test and what was wild to me is that I basically got a circle. I guess I just like food?

I feel like with your friend circle you can totally make this happen. You might not even need to do anything to make this happen.

I wouldn't consider it silly. I mean, statistically it *is* still the safest way to travel, so the fear isn't correct or rational - but I also wouldn't dismiss it as "silly" when recent government decisions are substantiality increasing the (still very small) risk of air travel.

I've been all for the idea where Oregon, Washington, and northern California join with British Columbia to form a new nation. But I'd be okay with it being a Danish territory.

I've been finding Windblown Early Access very fun -- kind of a cross between Hades and Dead Cells. Actually, speaking of Hades, the Hades II Early Access is also fun.

I suggest training it on your podcast so it will entertainingly chatter about convenience-store foods in between obscure gardening & animal facts.

that degrees in security aren't to be trusted, and that people who have a lot of certifications are sometimes just really good at multiple choice tests. The industry has a big training & pipeline problem. (2/2)
December 10, 2024 at 11:05 PM
The problem is that no concrete pathway exists. Everyone in security is trying to hire the same experienced mid-level security professionals, driving their salaries way up, while nobody wants to mentor new people into the industry. Part of the problem is that we (hiring managers) have learned (1/2)

I agree this should be under D&O insurance. But it's also true that at a lot of companies the "CISO" is not a real C-level company officer, but rather a VP or Director with a fancy title. People in that position should make very sure they _are_ covered under D&O insurance, as they often aren't.
