there's a strong argument that "neural network" is a terrible term for anything in this current wave of AI because modern architectures have moved away from (and often completely abandoned) anything resembling a brain or nervous system

like i think a network that keeps looping back on itself and getting stuck on some strange things with a heavy bias towards geometric patterns and nuking image clarity feels at least conceptually similar

i felt that the old like 2015 deepdream style of images were at least more similar in vibe, but it seems like they've spent the last decade specifically trying to iron that out so they can generate garbage in place of anything with value
