I genuinely don't understand how the series became the big "OMG this is the biggest/best thing ever". The whole thing always read to me as "Everything is miserable and hope doesn't exist kthx have fun!"

And Naughty Dog is determined to milk it to death, too.

Exactly the one problem I had with the Ishin remaster changing Hanpeita from "original character" to "It's just Shibusawa again". I like seeing characters they've -designed- rather than just face-scanned.
