On Monday, Knox City Council will debate a report on the cost and consequences of removing more than 150 of Rowville’s most established native trees, following calls for their replacement with less imposing trees by a former councillor last year.

I’ve spent a month weeding stands of Briza maximus in the small council reserve next door. It’s strangling a patch of federally protected, endangered grass. It also risks crowding out the Chocolate Lilies & other native lilies. This project is going to take 3-4 years, in Spring.

A Xerochrysum palustre (Swamp Everlasting) which is critically endangered in Victoria. Planted a few in a boggy patch in my garden and they’re doing well. There are only 35 significant-sized populations left in Australia in the wild. 🌱🌼
