All very true. I was out with my son last weekend. He was sold on genuine interest and enthusiasm for teaching his subject, lots of his department of interest turning up for lectures and demonstrations and hanging around for chats. Plus students and positive vibes.

I quite like the word engagement - it suggests to me a porosity and a coming together of university and community.

If you have a lawn let it go for a few months - we turn no-mow May into no-mow easter to mid June. I mow decorative paths through it. Let the dandelions and daisies stay. A small nettle patch. Thyme is great too. And something with rainwater too as lots of insects can stop by for a drink.

Distributed leadership

A really committed leader will engage their people in creating the change (as will the most skilled salespeople). That way the people can be a part of the solution rather than feel they are being sold it. #leadership
