I went straight into the university. I wish I would have started at the community college. I would have saved a lot of money.

Experienced teachers are few and far between. The job has become impossible and many new teachers leave after 3-5 years. High School students are attending teacher prep courses and then put in front of the classroom. Get kids off video games and cell phones. Get them to school!

I've been a proud public school teacher for 24 years. We've become the scapegoats in a society that doesn't make education a priority. Video games, cell phones, zero consequences, "free range parenting, etc. is a place to start.

When I was teaching in a border state, the students that came from Mexico were some of the hardest working kids I've ever taught. Their parents worked even harder. I never asked about their status because to me, it didn't matter. They were wonderful families.
