Still confident that I understand vintage cube, and pleasantly surprised that my rankings were decent!
In terms of learning from 17lands, I was baffled by some duals outperforming some Moxen: absurd, but not quite meaningless.

I made a couple plays I'm proud of this week and got rewarded for both!
#1: Holding the fetch to play around Banishing Stroke. OP had Stroke on Annex, but after shuffling I redrew it!
#2: Going to combat before cracking Seal. OP likely uses Magnet if I Seal first, but I got a free attack this way!

This weekend I drafted one of my favorite formats: Invasion Block, aka IPA! I went 3-0 with Jeskai—I mean, Raka 😎
I had drafted IPA before on MTGO, but never in paper! I can now check "draft IPA in paper" off my bucket list 😁

A year ago, I noticed a high density of pips and a dearth of fixing in the Horror Cube, so I drafted a couple monocolor decks and trophied both.
This year, I tried a second color but still drafted a staggering number of pips. No clue if 12-8 mana was right, but it worked! 🏆 😄

Random MTG thought of the day: if Exert were designed in 2025, it would probably use stun counters. Because Exert didn’t use stun counters, it ended up being much stronger with untap effects than it could’ve been otherwise

Expanding on this / extending the cooking metaphor:
If you can't taste a key ingredient (like removal), that means you have too little, which is remedied by adding more
You can't really have too much of a key ingredient—just proportionately too little of the others (like card advantage)

Taking a hint from others/other cubes isn’t a bad place to start, but imo the best way to figure this out is through testing/gameplay
For ingredients I consider necessary (such as fixing and removal), I personally find it much more noticeable when there’s too little rather than too much

I was kinda bummed that over 700 people voted for more vintage cube on MTGO (in addition to the vcube elims that are always available) whereas not even 300 people voted for a non-vintage cube

In preparation for @cubecon.org, I've been doing a deep dive on Scryfall for updates to my Sci-Fi Cube.
I managed to find 4 cards I like that I didn't know existed... but because they're all obscure, they're all pricy too 🎭

In preparation for @cubecon.org, I've been doing a deep dive on Scryfall for updates to my Sci-Fi Cube.
I managed to find 4 cards I like that I didn't know existed... but because they're all obscure, they're all pricy too 🎭
