Foundational is an understatement to how much David Lynch has meant to my cinematic journey and sparking my love for noir. His ability to craft dreamscapes of mystery and beauty has left an indelible mark on cinema—and on me. I hope he’s somewhere smiling, enjoying two Coca-Colas

I had a fantastic time at my very first #NoirCity event! It was a blast being surrounded by so many fellow noir lovers. For a few hours, it felt like I was transported back to #TCMFF! Can't wait to dive back into the shadows soon at #NoirCity22! @eddiemuller.bsky.social

Favorite first-time watches of November 2024 (to no one's surprise, all noirs):

The Naked Kiss (1964) dir. Samuel Fuller
Blood Simple (1984) dir. Joel Coen
The Conversation (1974) dir. Francis Ford Coppola
Taxi Driver (1976) dir. Martin Scorsese

Day 30 #NoirvemberChallenge
Best #FilmNoir Ending?
Caged (1950). Eleanor Parker delivers maybe her greatest role, and that ending? Brutal. A damning critique of institutional failure wrapped in these chilling words: “Keep it active, she’ll be back.”

Friday night.

Day 29 #NoirvemberChallenge Favorite RKO #filmnoir? Out of the Past (1947). Because no one smokes like Robert Mitchum, no femme fatale burns like Jane Greer, and no film captures the doomed beauty of noir like this one. No matter how far you run, the past will always catch up.

Day 28 #NoirvemberChallenge Fav #FilmNoir scene featuring food? Maybe an obvious one, but I would love to try one of Mildred’s pies from Mildred Pierce (1945). My love of pie cannot be overstated.

What’s your favorite type of pie? Mine is Pecan pie! #HappyThanksgiving

Day 27 #NoirvemberChallenge #FilmNoir with the best fashion? As a guy, Mitchum in Out of the Past (’47), with his sharp suits, trench coats, and effortless cool, will always be the gold standard. Nobody wore danger and elegance quite like Mitchum.
November 27, 2024 at 4:24 PM
Day 26 #NoirvemberChallenge Fav Robert Ryan #filmnoir? Caught (1949). Ryan is a cold menace as a millionaire who turns luxury into prison. He doesn't need to shout to dominate; every word and glance is a weapon—a chilling study of toxic control.
November 27, 2024 at 1:35 AM
Day 25 #NoirvemberChallenge Fav Ida Lupino #filmnoir? Roadhouse (1948). Lupino is the heart and soul of this one. She plays Lily like someone who’s seen it all but still has enough left in her to feel pain and love. Effortless and unforgettable.
November 25, 2024 at 5:33 PM
Day 24 #NoirvemberChallenge fav #filmnoir supporting role? Gaye Dawn, the washed-up, alcoholic ex-club singer past her prime, played so devastatingly by Claire Trevor in Key Largo (1948). Her haunting rendition of ‘Moanin’ Low’ is unforgettable. She absolutely earned that Oscar.

Day 23 #NoirvemberChallenge
Cast a new Phillip Marlowe or Sam Spade with what's available in Hollywood today?
My pick: Oscar Isaac. I’d love to see the story set in Guatemala (his birthplace) or—preferably—Nicaragua (yes, I’m biased).
November 23, 2024 at 10:08 PM
Day 22 #NoirvemberChallenge Fav #FilmNoir Secretary? Ella Raines as “Kansas” in Phantom Lady (’44). She’s always there to light your cigarette and keep you from frying in the chair.
November 23, 2024 at 12:29 AM
I introduced ‘Phantom Lady’ to a group of friends tonight, and they all loved it— because how could they not? #Noirvember
November 22, 2024 at 4:16 AM
Day 21 #NoirvemberChallenge Favorite #FilmNoir on a boat, train, airplane, or in a building: The Big Clock (1948) starring Ray Miland and Charles Laughton. A tense thriller set mostly in a publishing office, where Miland shifts from solving the case to being the target.
November 21, 2024 at 3:45 PM
Day 20 #NoirvemberChallenge Fav #noir line
Simple, but succinct. Pushover (’54)
