I SAY AGAIN

there is NO correlation between brutality and success in countering insurgency especially as a third party intervention.
Hegseth as SECDEF or no Hegseth as SECDEF, a rehabilitation of Mike Steele’s perspective on the wars—that US troops had their hands tied by ROE, the law of war, politicians, and “political generals” and could have won if they’d just killed more people—is definitely underway in some quarters.

Spain is increasingly either parched or flooded – and water-grabbing multinationals are profiting by forcing citizens to pay for it in bottles.

Under capitalism, even climate collapse is just another profit opportunity. That's why it isn't being tackled.

Spain is increasingly either parched or flooded – and one group is profiting from these extremes: the water-grabbing multinational companies forcing angry citizens to pay for it in bottles

If you are new here and enjoy my posts, check out my book. It is just like Bluesky if it were a 330-page account of how the MAGA Right has revived Jim Crow legal tools to wage the culture wars and maximize its political power.

One of the takeaways of this paper is that when we normalize the far right we somehow trigger the discounting of their extreme positions.
Starting the day with terrific news: my paper with Sergi Martínez (EAFIT) and Ethan vanderWilden (U of Wisconsin) on far-right normalization and discounting of their extreme positions has been conditionally accepted at Political Science Research and Methods (PSRM). I believe it's very timely.

It's really bad for Democrats to be amplifying this myth: "Donald Trump didn’t just win. He won big, including longstanding Democratic constituencies." Trump did not, in fact, "win big."

I mean this seriously: to all my comrades in education, whether you teach K-12, university, or anything in between, your role will be beyond crucial in the coming years. You are in a position to truly make an impact. Never forget that.
While we face terrifying levels of societal radicalization, we need to fight the urge to weld the hatches shut. Like I have had multiple students recently I know for a fact voted for Trump but responded enthusiastically to stuff like post-colonial theory. We need good teachers now more than ever.
