Political sphere is small enough that pretty much everything has a familial cordiality. Plus, pretty much all governmental power is local (income tax is only 10% federal but 30% local). But they are just as racist as the rest of Europe, and the bureaucracy really has a special staying power

It’s a weird story, but family kind of did actually? Switz can be just as fashy as the US so probably not a good place to go, but their commitment to upholding weird bureaucracy is stronger than their desire to do any real harm (or make any progress). Coffee is mid unless you like espresso
