For me the comic process is way more rewarding and fun. However, they are both time consuming. A novel is a more individual experience, whilst a comic book requires a team (writer, artist, colourist, letterer). So it depends if you'd want to work on it yourself, or be part of a collaboration.

I think, like you mentioned, it depends on what you're writing. Some plots require careful and thoughtful planning. Whilst other project need that whimsy - especially when it comes to comics books.
