Welsh East London gayer
It was only after my friend listened to it did it get pointed out to me that this record was not in fact an interview with the Cocteau Twins songstress but with top page 3 model Samantha Fox! I’ve still not really listened to it all but I’m still amazed that I didn’t realise that at the time!

Liz Fraser was not what I expected - as you can hear from the clip. I eventually turned it off without listening to the full interview and filed it away. Years later I gave it to a friend to listen to adding that it was not a great interview but not really remembering why I thought that.

I was a young gay boy from the welsh valleys and I was more a Smash Hits kind of kid rather than an NME reader at the time so I knew very little about the band and where they came from. Sadly after playing some of the interview I was a little disappointed by what I had heard, the illusion shattered

I have discovered so many new bands through seeing them as a support.

I would totally watch a weekly tv show with genuinely new bands playing live plus an interview. It’s a no brainer surely?

I guess we consume music etc differently now. Everybody is doing their own thing and there’s no general consensus anymore which in a way is good thing but it feels like the more access we have to everything through the internet etc the narrower our exposure is to new things..maybe. Maybe not 🤷🏽‍♂️

Also how is the BBC future proofing its BBC 4 output? Where is the equivalent of the vintage TOTP performances coming from? Apart from Jools Holland and Graham Norton I rarely see any band performances on tv. How will the future “WTF are they wearing?” and “that’s shit” conversations be instigated?

Why doesn’t the BBC carry on doing this kind of thing every year? Commission an artist to provide illustrations, some people will say they love them but most will seethe with irrational hatred in the papers and on social media. Then in 30 years we’ll look back fondly and think they were all amazing!

Or is it good to have these visual reminders to look at and remember?

And don’t get me started on the endless shit blurry photos from gigs I’ve been to, some so bad I can’t even tell who the artist is?

Do I really need those 64 photos of a night out from 2008 with people I’m not longer in contact with? Same with the photos of plants in my garden that have long died and have been replaced.

It is in Florida though, how cold does it actually get there? I imagine that’s where you’ll end up sleeping at night when it’s 100 degrees at 4am.

Agree with needing a nice tufted rug to stop you slipping onto your arse however.
