The largest rally in Serbia’s history is currently taking place in Belgrade. People are demanding the rule of law, democracy, and government accountability. The authoritarian regime of Aleksandar Vučić cannot provide this. It must go!

At the kind invitation of the Student Plenum of the Faculty of Security Studies, I took part in an excellent roundtable discussion today on the necessity of a democratic reset—not only of the security sector in Serbia but of the entire political system. We stayed for nearly two and a half hours!

After the historic protests in Novi Sad, gatherings continued yesterday and today across Serbia. One of these took place today in front of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade organized by a network of professors and researchers who support student requests called Rebelled University.

The symbol of the protest is a red hand, representing the blood spilled in the collapse of the canopy that killed 15 people, as well as the violence committed by pro-regime thugs against protesters.

Around 50k citizens gathered today in front of Serbia’s public broadcaster, demanding objective reporting. This is part of a larger anti-corruption student mobilisation which started in November. On Monday, many schools will go on strike. Serbia appears to be sliding toward a general strike.
