Reform isn’t one magic fix. It’s a system: prevention, oversight, transparency, and accountability — working together.

Harm reduction means prevention: solving problems before they become tragedy.
January 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM
We’re exploring reform options that reduce harm, increase transparency, and enforce accountability.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis.

Different uniforms. Same pattern.

Militarized enforcement, unchecked power, & deadly outcomes are not failures — they are features.

Thank you #NBPA for standing up and speaking out.

Markey and Pressley have introduced the Qualified Immunity Abolition Act of 2026, which goes farther than the Ending Qualified Immunity Act they introduced last year.

Barnes v. Felix confirmed this, but we already knew.

This is not the space for blaming the victim, excusing violence, or treating police brutality like entertainment. This page centers impacted families and community safety and care.

Even if it sounds constitutional, it won’t protect you in reality. This approach can escalate encounters with police —and people have ended up incarcerated or even killed.

Even if we agree with the rest of what you’re saying, reckless misinformation, dehumanizing language, or advocating harm will get comments removed.

Early narratives matter.
January 23, 2026 at 9:00 PM
In the early hours after a police killing, almost all information available to reporters comes from police sources. That initial narrative often shapes public perception long before independent facts emerge.
January 23, 2026 at 6:03 PM
After a police killing, the same institution controls the scene, the evidence, and the initial narrative. Independent review often comes later — if it comes at all.

Justice cannot depend on who holds power.
January 22, 2026 at 9:00 PM
In states without the death penalty, the state claims it cannot execute people through the courts — yet police are still permitted to impose death on the street without trial or due process. That contradiction rarely gets named.
January 22, 2026 at 6:00 PM
Qualified immunity is about power, not protection.
January 22, 2026 at 3:00 PM
Why does due process even exist if officers can execute folks on the street with impunity?
January 21, 2026 at 9:00 PM
People use extremes to excuse everyday violence. Those events are rare, and officers lack context in a split second. Someone could be defending themselves. There may be unknown explanations. Every life deserves consideration — force should never be the starting point.
January 21, 2026 at 6:00 PM
Just one of so so many.
January 21, 2026 at 3:00 PM
Noncompliance alone is a minor offense—usually a citation or low-level misdemeanor. It is not a felony. When harm follows ‘noncompliance,’ the escalation comes from officer choices, not the law.
January 20, 2026 at 9:00 PM
We get similar comments frequently. Use-of-force training prioritizes officer fear, not civilian life. A system built on fear produces unnecessary deaths.
January 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM
This does not apply only to police officers.
January 20, 2026 at 3:00 PM
Support the Qualified Immunity Abolition Act of 2026.

This comment was submitted by a self-identified retired officer and is really pretty infuriating. When police threaten to stop responding unless they get immunity from the law, that isn’t public safety — it’s extortion.
January 19, 2026 at 6:01 PM
We are already seeing this play out in some states. The world has not ended.
January 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM
We should be able to call for help without fear of violence and death.
