This morning’s roe deer. Nice to look at but can cause a lot of damage to crops and young trees. Numbers have increased a lot in recent years with up to twenty often seen on my walk around here, usually in groups of three.

We’ve had a lot of rain over the last 48 hours and it’s good to see the burns full again. There’s even a bit of flooding in some of the fields but dig down a few cm and it’s bone dry. We need a lot more steady rain to reverse the effects of the summer drought #ClimateChange #Fife #drought #rainfall

Jelly Ear #fungus, abundant in #Fife at this time of year and most frequently found on dead elder branches. Reportedly edible but apparently very rubbery. I’m not tempted.

Some fine #fungi in #Fife this #autumn. This, I think, is Coprinellus micaceous in early and late stages. Its common names include mica cap, glistening inky cap and shiny cap. #Fifewildlife

A real treat this morning when a hawfinch turned up in trees around a local park. An uncommon bird in #Fife. The huge bill is used for extracting seeds and even cracking open cherry stones. #wildlife #birding #hawfinch #nature

Finches and buntings are starting to form flocks in open arable areas. These were in a mixed flock of over 700 linnets and goldfinches feeding on the seed heads of #Phacelia, a cover crop which, fortunately for the birds, hasn’t yet been ploughed in #nature #birds #Fife #FarmingForWildlife #finches

Wonderful to catch a pine marten on the wildlife camera right by the house. This is the closest of three recent sightings. They seem to be spreading well in North Fife now. Hopefully they will be an effective predator for grey squirrels. #pinemarten #mammals #wildlife #Fife
