Irish fiddle, electric motorcycles, and existential dread. Also cats
Yeah sure mustache guy first but if I had a time machine the second thing I would use it for is to track down the various people throughout the twentieth century who were just certain that they had improved upon the violin tuning peg

That Gen X moment when you realize that a lot of Schoolhouse Rock episodes were bourgeois propaganda

UPS, why does your "contact us" page not have a way to contact you?

Me:
My brain, out of nowhere: "a Capital One commercial with Gollum saying 'What has it got in its walletses?'"

Started "Harrow the Ninth", or as I'm starting to call it, Harrow the Retcon

Nintendo: "Switch 2 released!"
Me: "whatever. I still have a bunch of Switch Games I haven't played. Heck, I still have a bunch of PS3 games I haven't played."
Nintendo: "Metroid Prime 4 in December!"
Me: "welp, guess I'm buying a new console"

My day so far: realizing that the word "quesadilla" is just "queso" + "tortilla" and feeling like this is something everyone needs to know.

Starting Gideon the Ninth.
Early in the book there's a very clear case of "the protagonist could absolutely take the upper hand but then the plot wouldn't happen so the character had to be stupid" and I'm going to spend the rest of the book mad about it

Becky Chambers' good novels generate enough good will to carry me through her boring ones. Kind of like how we all watched three meh Matrix movies because one was so so good

Someone put $100+ Eudoxa violin strings on a $150 rental quality violin and I'm just done trying to understand people

Knowing what we know now about him I'm not the least bit surprised to learn that Gaiman ripped off Tanith Lee's "Tales from a Flat Earth" to write Sandman

In adapting Murderbot for Apple TV, making Mensah and her crew naive, anxiety ridden, and kind of dumb rather than capable and compassionate with a strong moral sense feels like the sort of change the Corporation Rim would make

I nitpick the things I love, so I really want to nitpick the Imperial Radch books by @annleckie.com But I can't. Absolute delight. No notes

Some tea with my dinner at Claudia Sanders Dinner House: Col. Sanders didn't like the changes KFC made to his recipe, so he opened this place, but used his face on the sign. KFC sued since they owned his likeness. He countersued for using his likeness to promote stuff he never approved.

I thought my fiddle looked neat in the sun so I took a picture

I nitpick the things I love. I'm about ⅔ through The 10,000 Doors of January by Alix Harrow, and I have to say, "writing things down makes them real if you're special enough" feels a little masturbatory coming from an author. I did appreciate the nod to the power of rough drafts and editing though

When I get angry and am about to open my mouth, I wish a sign would flash that says "there will always be shitty people in the world, but you get to choose whether or not you'll be one of them" - hat tip to @wilwheaton.net

Just finished Nettle and Bone. Wondering if anyone has picked up the streaming rights to it yet, but also I think a video game set in the same universe with a similar sort of plot thread could be a lot of fun

I really want to love the Murderbot show as much as I love the books. But I feel like the writers don't trust the viewer to get dry sarcasm, so they've leaned into silly.

Looking for music-oriented charities that could use some student violins

Subscribers to normal streaming services: "how can we pay less for this?"
Subscribers to @dropout.tv : "how can we pay more for this?"

Watching Star Trek: the original series and I gotta say: I really wish they hadn't upgraded the special effects. It's just soooo jarring
