Custom made steel bikes. Handmade in Portland Oregon.
More shots of Brian’s new custom stainless mini-rando front rack.

It’s slammed down low to give Brian lots of cargo space up top. It has double fender mounts to hold that Honjo front fender super tight. And it has a custom mount for Brian’s PDW light nug.

#newrackday for Brian!

Custom racks really make all the difference!
This one is a little stainless mini rando with all the bits and bobs that Brian wanted.

Plus those bits on the side are just to hold whatever. A Voile strap fits twice through each little hole.

Making a stainless steel rack using nickel silver. This is a new material for me. There was a learning curve for sure, but after some practice I’m starting to get the hang of it!

Austin’s long-tail cargo bike.
Its so close! Just a little more woodworking to do, then it’ll be off to paint!

Building a custom stainless mini rando rack!
Lots of filing.

New merch!
The newest round of fiddlehead cycles t-shirts are up for sale on my site!
These shirts are printed front and back. The front is the fiddlehead cycles logo, and the back is the little ‘handmade in Portland’ graphic that gets painted near the bottom bracket of every fiddlehead frame.

Building a front rack for Austin’s cargo bike. It mounts to the head tube, because the bike has a suspension fork.
And it has some custom bits that are pretty cool! A custom shaped mount for a supernova headlight, and maybe the coolest thing of all: skateboard racks!

Love building custom racks.

Custom dropouts now in UDH!

I’ve completed development of my custom UDH compatible dropouts with the fiddlehead f-hole logo. They use a precision machined sleeve from @paragonmachineworks to hold the UDH insert. And they’re compatible with any UDH hanger on the market.

Second bike for Made is off to paint!

This one is what I call a Portland-style commuter for Sarah. Sort of a mix between an all-road and a city bike.
It has drop bars, for comfort and for speeding down the springwater. Plenty of gears, because Portland has hills.

Trying something new with this stem. Needs a little cleanup, but I’m loving how it turned out!

This is my first stem with four bosses on the handlebar clamp. All of my previous stems have only a single bolt under the bars.

Mike’s all-road all built up! This thing really rips. It’s so much fun to ride. I’m a little jealous that Mike gets to keep it.

The drivetrain is Sram 1x 12, with a 10-50 eagle cassette in the back, and Gevenalle shifters up front.

The fork for Sarah’s commuting bike is coming together. Love the look of a segmented fork. Dropouts and brake tab from Paragon Machine Works.

And I’m so stoked about these Growtac Equal brakes! ✨

Mikes all-road came back from powder coat today. It looks so good! I’ll post more pics once it’s assembled.

This machine kills fascists!
Mike’s all road is off to powder coat. It’ll be on the roads making a statement soon.
Mike will ride this bike in this year’s STP (Seattle to Portland), then I’ll clean it up and it’ll be in my booth at Made in August. Come see it there!

If I had a lathe, I could trim these fork blade caps in like 30 seconds. I do it by hand with files and sandpaper. It takes considerably longer than 30 seconds.
I’m happy with the result though. It’s worth the effort.

More shots of Holly’s city bike.
Love these f-hole dropouts.
And the taillight mounting turned out so clean!

Holly’s city bike all decked out in purple with brass oak leaves!
I love a good city bike, and this is a good one. Dynamo lighting, platform rack, fenders, swept bars, 1x mtn drivetrain, and a shiny brass bell!
Everything you’d need to run errands around town.

Mikes all road stem looking very blue! All it needs is a little clear coat.
The whole bike will be done up in blue steel and exposed bronze. Come check it out at Made this summer!

(These are placeholder bars. The final bike will have drop bars)

A bell should be standard equipment on a bike. Even a road bike. Far better than shouting “on your left” over and over again on a bike path.

I like to add a mount for a bell to the side of the stem like this, so the bell is right where you need it.

I had a pair of cargo cages made for the Made show this summer. Thinking of doing a run of them, and I’m curious if there’s any interest out there.
Made in the USA from 1.5 mm 5051 aluminum. Surprisingly light and stiff. Designed for a Nalgene bottle and a voile strap.
Price around $55.

Mike’s all road is all ready for brazing!
It’s gonna be such a sweet ride. Clearance for 40mm tires with fenders. 50s without. And it should be pretty capable in gravel. Because the best road rides aren’t 100% paved.

Lots more details to come.
