Fascinating! I’m now tempted to re-check a dataset where species are pooled. Who knows how many “X” we’ve missed? It might be true that the most critical part of any analysis is proper data exploration…

X might belong to the same group, although it’s an outlier. If X-axis is length and Y is GSI, it could be a male at peak . It’s extreme, but not necessarily from a different distribution. More info would be needed to confirm.
