I have so much respect for climate modelers, not only for their precision but for their mental resilience putting these super frightening numbers out there.
(NB virtually no places have infrastructure resilient enough to withstand 145+ mph winds)

Maybe it’s because it is 2025, maybe because I know she is “selective on renewables”, maybe because the news posted the headline “historic vote for first female PM“ together with this picture — anyway, not exactly feeling a warm glow with the new PM announcement from Japan

Hello Mannheim! I'm presenting tomorrow at the Centre for European Social Research.
Come for all the empirical modelling you know all about, stay for all the stuff about oil in Northern Europe you know less about 🛢️🌊

Re 2) below, @lorenzocrippa.bsky.social and I have clear evidence of that:
In the immediate aftermath of the release of Francis‘ Laudato Si, Fox News made lots of noise bashing Francis for his “woke” green agenda.
Btw, this was also around the time of Trump’s candidacy to the 2016 primaries.

Good report by @thinktankeuropa.bsky.social on the state of climate and energy policies in Italy.
Il Bel Paese is powered by dirty fuels, despite all the EU state aid meant to foster the energy transition (plus another hundred reasons to do the transition)

Enjoyed this ep of @drilledmedia.bsky.social on far-right movements and the side convo in it abt an American observing the US climate backlash in comparison to Europe.
Imo the most American thing in that convo is the muted discussion of what institutions *can* do to prevent toxic far right surges.

This is also not to say that the politics here are easy. In fact, this is v much reflective of where people stand…
Lots of folks in England & Scotland are skeptical of oil and gas firms (more than 70% in polls). 90%+ are worried abt climate.
But a large bit worries abt energy security and jobs.
