Micro Film Review: Conan the Destroyer (1984)

It doesn't quite have the gravitas of the first one but boy is it entertaining. Grace Jones and lovecraftian horrors definitely give it some character. Shame we never got King Conan.

UNION from Lancer has to be like one of the best sci fi settings ever. It is the end of history future shock of OA but also as Utopian as Star Trek and the moral righteousness of the Union in the American Civil War. Something that is so incredibly necessary in this day and age.

Micro Film Review: A House of Dynamite (2025)

Definitely less intense than the Annie Jacobson book. I always love Bigelow's ability to put you in the shit and show you that there's real people inside the machine.

Movie is definitely OBE by Trump. Things would be so much less civil in reality.

Notes from the library: Open to Desire by Mark Epstein

I could actually feel myself becoming a better person as I read this book. Something I struggle with (and that I see a lot of peers struggle with) is clinging onto expectations & desires around life, particularly around other people.

Micro Film Review: Barry Lyndon (1975)

Cinematic sublime. The insane attention to detail with which Kubrick recreated the 18th Century makes you feel like a time traveler. People accuse this movie of being cold or wooden but I think they're kind of missing the point.

Watching Bad Guys 2 with @awwshucksrabbit.bsky.social and I'm being all like "damn I wish I could be unashamedly cringe as Snake and Doom" to which he replied "don't worry we already are."

Happy birthday husbun :3

Micro Film Review: Showgirls (1995)

What a flappin movie. I kind of loved it and I hate that I do. This film also has bad acting/writing and some legitimately nasty moments I do not care to see again.

Micro Film Review: Robocop (1987)

Insanely good. A movie for 2027 from the 80s. It's such a mix of corporate parody, unironic facism, and cyberpunk body horror. I see it's fingerprints on a lot of things now.

Notes from the Library: Zen Mind Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki

If you were gonna get into Bhuddism I would recommend starting here. Simple, short, unpretentious, and to the point. Read a chapter a day over the past few months. Will definitely be coming back to it in the future.

Off world urban infrastructure that looks like a Wermacht pillbox. Space is too hostile to build NYC under a dome.

Notes from the Library: Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kushiro

Very similar vibes to Berserk at times but also very much its own thing. I love the world and the main characters. The first half is peak cyberpunk, the second half is a bit meh. Author did in fact retcon & continue the story elsewhere.

They're more of a plushie/vibe than like a fully fleshed out OC. @awwshucksrabbit.bsky.social has forbidden them from being main. There will be no Scribbles suit or account:(

Micro Film Review: Fantastic 4 First Steps (2025)

I LOVED this. It brought me back to reading my dad's old copies of the Galactus arc when I was 8. Definitely a movie in conversation with everything I love about mid century retrofuture kitsch.

Notes from the Library: New Millennium Boys by Alex Kazemi

Fuck this was a hard book to read but so so worth it. Growing up as a boy in this society is hard. This book took me back to how hard it was. Took me back to how screamingly sexist and homophobic the suburbs were. Fucking masterpiece

Micro Film Review: Children of Men (2006)

Holy smokes what a film. Just really this haunting vision of the horrors of the 21st century. A world without hope gone mad. Insanely intense action sequences, atmospheric worldbuilding on par w Bladrunner. A sci fi classic par excellence.

Notes from the Library: 20021 by Jon Bois

Continue to love Bois's view of humanity in deep time. Had a really touching gay little love story. Absolutely insane that I gotta wait for the print edition to see the end to Nick and Manny's story.

Micro Film Review: Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack (1988)

Haman did nothing wrong. Char is the least problematic person ever. Tomino is totally a normal person.
