Autistics, I love you, you are the reason I am able to move and the motivation behind all my favourite things I have done. I hope you can breathe a bit today. Please be proud of everything you have survived. I am.

This is why this day, for autistics, is important. We are crushed our whole lives, and making the space to stretch out into who we are and what we have done so far is priceless, worth every struggle and effort.

Having my entire body cut open for surgery seems to have helped with this. I put up my BA & my research award from winter; I went to convocation last week & felt proud that I got to do the work I've done already. Not next, not maybe if I get better, not once I get another project done. Already.

Being autistic in academia is so hard - they do not want us here. Succeeding despite this is a massive win, yet it has never seemed like proof for me that I had anything to be proud of, because there was so much I hadn't done still.

I haven't gone to a graduation since middle school. It wasn't even until after surgery this year I put my BA on the wall. I always had other things to move on to, hadn't done or been enough. This masters degree was likely going to be the same - my PhD starts in a few months, so much to get done.

Oh it was not mandated length, I ran a 3 phase mixed methods participatory analysis study by myself, this was as short as it could possibly be.
