Oh I understand why it confused people. My point is more that you’d expect people who would question why a rigid object was called a floppy wouldn’t also question why something called a ‘disk’ was square.

Disks are round by definition. The reference has always been to the medium inside the case not the shell used to house them. Hard drive disk platters were rigid metal so that was always the distinction.

We always just said ”Eight Inch” “Five and a Quarter” or “Three Inch” Floppy.

Whelp. Finally time to dig out that assembled Domesday I bought a year ago and finally back up my LD-ROM collection. Hopefully the PC-Engine version isn’t too far behind.
