Fifty years ago 29 men died in the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I believe the biggest thing to come out of this was Gordon Lightfoot's song and the attention it brought with newfound safety concerns. Previous to the Edmund Fitzgerald, hundreds of major vessels had been lost. After her, none.
