Wishing everyone the merriest of Christmases.

We have Waxwings visiting Aberdeen again this year. I was lucky enough to catch them when the light was good and managed to take a few shots that I'm really pleased by.

I'd managed to get some shots of the Waxwings in Aberdeen yesterday. However the light wasn't great and I thought I could do better.
I was up and out early enough to catch them in the morning light and I'm much happier with the results.

This came up on my FB memories this morning.
To be honest I'm cringing, slightly, at the tautology of 'earlier' with 'forerunner' but I do really like a classic phone box.
And you almost never see a K2 outside London.
The picture is of a screen grab of a FaceBook memory from six years ago. The accompanying text reads: "K2 phone box outside the Natural History Museum and the V&A. The K2 was an earlier (and larger) forerunner to the iconic K6 phone box. Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott it was introduced in 1926. The design of the domed top was inspired by the mausoleum of Sir John Soane." To be honest I'm cringing at the tautology of 'earlier' and 'forerunner' but I do really like a classic phone box. And you almost never see a K2 outside London. The K2 phone box is larger than the classic K6 box, has slightly more design work and has a pierced crown emblem instead of the moulded crown found on the K6.

The picture shows Lego Minifigures duelling of Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn on a mossy rock. Darth Maul is hooded with a single red bladed light sabre. Qui-Gon is wielding a light sabre with green blade. Both figures are from the 7101 Lightsaber Duel set (so Qui-Gon has the classic Lego yellow colouring). I've upgraded my gear and took my new lens out for to see if I could spot some Short Eared Owls. (I didn't)
However I did have a chance encounter with a fox who'd popped their head up to see what I was doing while they were stretching in afternoon sun

The picture was taken in the afternoon sun and the there is a warm tone to the picture. I'd gone looking for short eared owls which have been overwintering in a local nature reserve. I didn't see any. I'd decided to move on to try my luck elsewhere and as I was making my way a foxy head popped up and looked at me, unconcerned, enjoying the winter sun and I managed to take a few shots.

Castlegate Aberdeen, last Tuesday.
The image is a picture of the snow falling on Castlegate, Aberdeen looking down towards Union Street. In the foreground is the Mercat Cross and few figures can be sheltering from the snow. Looking down towards Union Street the Christmas tree and the Town House can be seen fading into the distance. The falling snows shows brightly against the dark buildings.

I've had a bit of a rubbish week so far.
But this made may day.
The picture shows an old and formerly whit mattress that's been put out for the rubbish collection. On it is sprayed "Cos nothing really mattress to meeee..." And I've had Bohemian Rhapsody as an earworm since I saw it. It's been a less than great week so far but this really cheered me up.

Happy Star Wars Day. The image shows LEGO figures of Darth Maul and and Qui-Gon Jinn engaged in an epic lightsabre battle on a moss covered rock. Both figures have their left hand raised as if using the Force. The Qui-Gon figure is from the the first release of LEGO Star Wars sets so still has the classic yellow hands and head. I hope you find someone who looks at you the way a neurodivergent nerd looks at an unexpected K4 phone box. (and then has to spend the next fortnight trying not to tell everyone about it)
This is a picture of an old K4 phone box facing the door taken at night. The box is illuminated against a dark sky and there is a tree in the background. The K4 box is similar to the classic British red phone box (the K6) but is slightly larger and heavier in appearance because it also incorporates a postbox and stamp vending machine into the design. There were only a small number ever produced and there are only a handful remaining. This one can be found in Warrington. This is a picture of an old K4 phone box taken at night. The box is illuminated against a dark sky. This is taking facing the back of the box showing the postbox and the, now defunct, stamp vending machine. The initials G R can be clearly seen above the post box and on the sign where it would normally read "Telephone" it reads "stamps" on one side and "Post Office" on the other visible angle.
