Image not mine but The X-Files is extremely hilarious once you realize all of those philosophical utterings Mulder and Scully do at the end of an episode are implied to be in field journals and reports that Skinner would have to read.

The beauty of this show makes my breath hitch sometimes just out of the blue
Scully sitting at a table across Roach, the "mailman" from The Walk. This shot is all about black and white, light and dark. The floor looks like a chess board, Scully is completely clad in black, Roach in white. Both are sitting in the middle of the frame in the quite big (and sparsely decorated) room, a window in a door to the left makes a very bright spot in the upper left corner, while the upper right corner of the picture is utterly dark. Nothing in the script demands such a sophisticated blocked, lit and shot scene, it surprises me every time. Mulder climbing the tower of the submarine in End Game. He is lit from behind, so you can only make out the silhouettes of him and the submarine, all the light is blue, and brightest directly around Mulder, becoming darker and darker blue shades toward the edges of the picture. It's stunning. Explosion from a bird's view in Kill Switch. A car is driving at through ship containers in a harbour at night, away from the very bright explosion in the background. It almost looks like firework. The fire plunges the whole picture in yellow-red shades. The car and the explosion are exactly in the middle of the frame, with the nearest containers arranged symmetrically, which looks incredibly satisfying to me. Mulder standing at the rear end of a dark sedan. The driver's door and the boot are open. Mulder is looking away from us into a bright light that illuminates the scene from behind, with the brightest spot in the middle of the frame. Despite it being night the scene is very well lit, the red tail lights draw the viewer's focus in Mulder's direction. Beau.ti.ful.
