They have long fleshy necks, and their wings are similarly featherless and fleshy. Their deep keels which feature eye-like sensory organs on either side. Their long tails have vent-like stoma that resemble fish gills. Their are six birds total in this illustration. The largest has its head tucked into its curled up neck, which is riddled with scars; its wings are omitted to better appreciate the other anatomical details. some monster-on-monster violence from my novel wip. so far this is my favorite death but we're only halfway thru the manuscript so far (cw: gore)

Her chest heaves, her back arches; each attempted breath is another bubble erupting from her destroyed gizzard. The gestalt’s hold on her, even as she lies dying, is steadfast. Its coat glitters with the steam let off by her dissolving skin; there is even dew, forming on the tips of its wings and falling lazily to the ground. Her acid eats away at her: her scales, her skin, her muscle. Her melted flesh forms a puddle beneath her. When she finally goes limp, all that’s left of her neck is her granite spine, which shines faintly in the dimming sunlight.

Very birdcore moment from my novel WIP
A screenshot which reads: As it sticks the tip of its tongue into the cut on its gums, the bone-eater admires one of the corpse’s clothes. A tunic dyed with yellow ochre, stitched with green-and-red thread. At the collar, just a bit of golden floss decorates the hem, shining gently like fireflies against a weedy bog. This tunic is too badly torn to be of any use, but the bone-eater scours the corpse for baubles, worming its talons beneath the fabric and rubbing its beak against skin, and when it finds nothing, it looks to the farmhouse.
