a matter of trust
Who do you trust? We literally can't trust the federal government right now. People have always distrusted government, myself included, but until this year there have been a lot of civil service employees who worked at sometimes unglamorous jobs, doing the business of running a nation for the taxpayers, with quiet professionalism. They didn't always get things right, they weren't always efficient, they were never perfect, but I think the majority struck a balance between caring about their work and evening out the political whims of the leaders' policies.

callous brutality
One problem I have with the current regime is the petty, brutal meanness they seem to have toward the public, especially the most vulnerable people of society. Ignoring for a moment that they seem to be horrible, despicable people without a shred of sympathy; their governing philosophy is that government should not be paying money to support the poor and elderly, to support education or health care, to ensure people can be treated with dignity, or to acknowledge that through our nation’s history we have treated some people very badly because they were “different” somehow from the ideal “able-bodied, industrious, straight, white christian male”.

pandapocalypse now
Last night I dreamed that pandas were everywhere. No longer regarded as adorable curiosities, these lazy and insolent creatures were reviled as ubiquitous pests rivaling the monkeys of Asian countries. They would destroy wicker patio furniture; chew the rubber hoses at gas stations; and shred the books in libraries. They wandered the streets in packs, disrupting traffic and frustrating drivers; no one bothered to remove the matted hair and blood from the bumpers of countless cars.

Just a thought: some people like to put out fires, and some people like to start fires, pour gasoline on them until they're out of control, then throw on some liquid sodium just to piss you off.

I talked to a work friend who is so worried about our future that I felt like I needed to calm him down a little. But what if he's right? Can things really get that bad? Would they really do that, and will others who could stop it let it happen? ... and I'm not talking about truck stop burritos.

If anyone interested, I had some disjointed thoughts on the dehumanization caused by economic progress. Apologies for not including an AI summary.

dehumanized and devalued
Capitalism is the most efficient machine ever created. It can dehumanize vast numbers of people and transfer the common wealth of a society to the very rich. Billions of people still want it despit…

Cross-post from FB. I'm keeping my profile there for now. ... Ironically, my friend has a copy of the Declaration of Independence on his cubicle, but no concerns about the current challenges to the Constitution. I'm sure there are multiple Republican senators in the same situation.

Today I sent a ranting email to coworkers about poorly drawn blocks in AutoCAD. Former coworkers fondly remember my previous rants about drafting, computers, and other topics (sometimes in the form of haiku). Apparently I've been the grouchy old man since I was 30.

Also: besides blocking everyone involved, how do I extract myself from a text group chat that has become a right wing propaganda echo chamber? Plot twist: one of the people is my supervisor at work.

I wish I could have heard Kendrick Lamar's lyrics more clearly (I'll have to search later), but the image of the American flag made up of all black performers was pretty compelling. My daughter had to tell me about the Drake reference. #outoftouch

Large problems: the people who have become political targets of the regime, and the fear and anxiety they and their families have as they are worried for their safety.

Small problems: I have to reevaluate my personal relationships with people who continue to enable or support the regime, including work friends and family members who believe the propaganda.

An unelected foreign-born billionaire and his crew are executing a slow-motion coup on the government. Congress and the courts appear to be willing to let it happen. Until now, the corrupt rich chose to hide behind the corrupt politicians. Now they are stealing power in front of your face.
