Nice! Are you traveling with everything in that bag, or do you also have a backpack/suitcase of some sort? If just the bag, about how many days do you find you can pack in there? It seems like a super convenient way to travel if everything can just go on the front of the bike

It makes me so happy to see the discourse on biking taking off. I am positive it changed my life for the better, and I really hope we can make it an option for others too. Plus, w/ so many ppl feeling disconnected and lonely, improving our shared spaces could do wonders to help

I do wish our bike infrastructure was better, and I am fortunate to live somewhere that is better than most. w/ obesity in the US at record highs, we need to make options like this more available. Bike lanes that aren't just road shoulders, city planning that favors walking/biking over cars, etc

Over 8 months, I lost ~35 lbs (~16 kg), and have maintained that weight over 2 years since. I also heavily modified my diet - no more take out, etc - so I can't attribute it all to biking, though I do think improved mental health from exercising regularly kept me from going to fatty/processed food.

I knew I wasn't happy with what I saw in the mirror, but with Arizona being so hot, I also wasn't wild about showing up to work all sweaty. E-bikes seemed a good compromise, so I bought a @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social folding e-bike and committed to biking every day

What bike bag is that? I've got the brompton branded one for my electric, but that looks super nice!

I have! I rode an HSD (S00 iirc) - it was a super comfortable and solid ride, especially compared against my brompton which is definitely a bit bumpier due to the lack of shocks

That sounds really similar to my use case, which is me plus work stuff or groceries - no people or pets. Do you ever have any concerns with leaving it outside while you go in somewhere? That's been my main concern considering I can take my brompton with me inside most places
November 30, 2024 at 12:59 AM
Yeah, the HSD is what I've been looking at. Test rode one at a local shop and it was a nice ride. Cost is really the only reason I haven't done it yet
November 30, 2024 at 12:57 AM
Oooh, that's a good suggestion, since my main cargo is just me and groceries or similar - no people or pets. I'll look at those a bit more closely.
November 30, 2024 at 12:56 AM
Yeah, that's kind of my feeling too. Do you ever have any concerns with leaving it outside while grocery shopping or such? That's my big worry over the brompton since I can bring it in with me usually
November 30, 2024 at 12:54 AM
The HSD is what I've been looking at since it does seem a nice mid(-ish)point between the GSD and the brompton. I'm 100% with you on the cost though - even with a trade in of my current bike it's not cheap

One thing that I wonder about is how to handle people who never respond to reviewers since the paper is already "published" and is (I assume) cite-able, or work reviewers say isn't up to snuff. Do those get de-listed? Or is the hope that others will not cite unfinalized/poorly reviewed work?

I really like this idea. It seems like it'd help make the reviews more transparent (either discouraging bad-faith reviews or at least making them evident to readers), while also increasing confidence in the system and process as a whole through transparency.

I really like this. I feel this approach would also help bring transparency to what others thought might be strong/weak areas of the results, which can be helpful for people who are unfamiliar with a topic.
