Joan Rivers's "Rabbit Test." Billy Crystal as the world's first pregnant man. At the time I thought it was just appalling. For all I know it's aged into a work of genius, but I won't subject myself to it a second time.

"...think of / Celebrated heads of state / Or specially great communicators! / Did they have brains or knowledge? / Don't make me laugh!
They were popular!"

I don't get it. Is the great ape sick? Otherwise why can't he get the water for himself? If at first he didn't know how to cup his hands, surely he could copy for the second time. And why are they on a craft? Are they just buddies? 🤔

We just watched this for New Year's Eve! Previous viewing was in a revival house on the Fourth of July! It's a holiday film.

They don't respect the power of tech or recognize that social media IS public discourse. They're like, "Tik-tok? That app my grandaughter likes, with the dancing? No one important takes that seriously."

I appreciate your taking the time to engage and I will admit I was being over-sensitive. All the best to you.

Not spoiling for battle -- just, as one of those who don't like to sit in a warmed chair, I wondered why you called people like me odd and funny? It seemed mean, and I questioned the entitlement. Best wishes.

"Odd" is not the word I would choose -- to me it implies a value judgment, an othering, a disdain. "Curious" or "various" perhaps -- they sound less judgmental to me, and more humane.

Why do you think it's "odd in a funny way" to feel distaste or wish to sit elsewhere? Why do you feel entitled to judge others based on such a preference?

It seemed like the whole "Mommala trades recipes and buys spices" went on way too long, so unserious. She didnt take the floor for weeks after the nom. Walz was a poor pick and the joint 60 Min interview was bad judgment. And after she lost, silence, no leadership.

The hegemony of western works in the west. 🤔

Please please please! Enough with the language of infantilization, ineptitude, insanity. These people possess power and capability. They're talking of shutting it all down till Jan 20! Dems need to do more than mock! They need to decry, to forge an opposition!

But what is she even saying? - I mean, I know what she's saying, but how is that language helpful or proportionate or respectful of history? I don't think it moves people, it puts people off and diminishes the rhetoric.

As a Democrat, I've grown so disheartened. Our leaders seem so uncreative, so feckless, so out-maneuvered. They're like dowagers in a Marx Bros movie, responding to offense with only sputtering.

It's so refreshing here in the Good Place with the Good People. Over there, they'd probably just laugh at something like this.
December 16, 2024 at 1:04 PM
Exactly! I'm so frustrated by the liberal response to the right, which seems to consist mostly of trying to shame them into acting differently, and then mocking them for failing to be shamed. What I don't see is creative problem solving and actual exercise of power!

I'm not sure the best response to Trump is to pretend he doesn't exist.

"Checked out?" Because they choose not to answer the door to your magisterial knock? Oh, for the masses that might have been swayed, had they just chosen to open their door to strangers with a political agenda!

I'm not selling it but I'm thrilled you like it!
