I love the vibe of the world and the contrast between the high-tech world and the ruined city Tomoro lives in. Something major happend to this world. If you wondered why Tomoro wears giant crocs... giant feet!

After passing under the game’s Wall of Hope, we arrive at the ruins of the classic Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which Digimon Tamers fans know well. If I made the game, I couldn’t have resisted putting the Hypnos headquarters in there as an easter egg, but oh well.

And then through the underpass into West Shinjuku! That side is less recognizable for obvious plot reasons… Fun trivia, I noticed you can see this underpass in the distance from the Kamurocho gate in Yakuza 6.

As we turn and head towards West Shinjuku, we pass these big anime boards. The McDonald’s is missing in game though. Then on past Seibu Shinuku PePe mall and Shinjuku Prince hotel.

Of course everyone who is a fan of the Yakuza franchise recognizes the famous Kabukicho gate! I assume it’s trademarked since games redesign it every time. The game character Shota Kuroi reminds me of Kiryu, so I’m amused we can get to “Kamurocho” in Digimon.

Of course everyone who is a fan of the Yakuza franchise recognizes the famous Kabukicho gate! I assume it’s trademarked since games redesign it every time. The game character Shota Kuroi reminds me of Kiryu, so I’m amused we can get to “Kamurocho” in Digimon.

We can recognize some familiar architecture along the way, like how Alpen Tokyo is adapted into Futabane Camera, and can find the game versions of the fashion shop, Taito Station, and the music store.

The Studio Alta shopping center is rebranded into the game world’s Blan shopping center. This “Come Buy” pop-up shop had been adapted into this branch of Simon Burger.

Not specific to Time Stranger, one thing that I learned about here is the details of Starmon's anatomy. I don't think I've ever really seen or noticed him outside of front view. I always saw him as a flat starfish, but here he's basically another round Mamemon-esque ball guy.
