I don't hear much about this one so it surprised me. I like how it handled how people deal with loss of loved ones while keeping creepy elements. The grief of the family is more upsetting than ghosts honestly. Don't make me think about what happens after death I'll hurl.

Terrifier 2
4/10
This solidified that these movies are not for me. The run time on this one is ridiculous, and I feel the story and lore it added was bad. It feels there weren't enough goofy scenes with Art. Even the gore was less creative and was just more excessive instead

Terrifier (Rewatch)

This kind of super gory movie is not for me, but I honestly enjoyed this more on a rewatch. The low budget and bad acting were actually endearing. Art is fun to watch with the exaggerated mime actions. I do appreciate the practical gore scenes however

My sister got me to watch this, and it was a good home invasion movie. The single setting, few characters, and little dialog works well for this film. Having a deaf character and having that actually be relevant to the events was nice. Most obvious Chekovs gun in the world

I have a weakness for this kind of supernatural horror. Does a good job of establishing the group before everything quickly falls apart. A LOT of character screaming lol. Probably not for everyone because it's a typical setup

The First Omen
8/10
An actually justified modern prequel. It definitely leans heavily on the notable scenes from the original, but I think it was still different enough to justify it's existence. They kept the good music as well.

Omen

A classic I had never gotten around to watching. Great religious horror with some surprising kills. The ending is a perfect bleak ending. The soundtrack is incredible, the choral music really adds to it. Gregory Peck will still only be Atticus Finch in my mind.

Cheating a bit, watched last year. But the student film documentary chasing down an urban legend was a really good setting. I like how it transferred from the original filming to people doubting what was actually on the tapes. Super underrated movie

Introduction was incredible, starting off with that good horror of people stumbling across something unknown. After that it becomes a detective movie more or less, which was still fun but didn't deliver like the intro did. I do like the ubran legen chasing though.

Held off from looking at anything about this when it came out, only got around to it now. It deserves the hype, I like this type of slow build up to crazy ending type of movie. Really the best break up movie

Poughkeepsie Tapes
5/10
Watched on a whim, it was alright? There was alright gore scenes, but not really any more than that. The framing being a true crime documentary with the tapes the killer filmed interested me, there just wasn't much to grab my interest.

Oddity

The opening scene really set the stage for this one perfectly. I liked the story, though it was a bit predictable. I almost wish this one did a bit more. The supernatural elements are there and we get a bit especially towards the end, but I was wishing there was more to see on that front

VHS Beyond

Stork was a fun action short. Live and Let Dive is crazy with how much the fit in. Good action, scary monster, and visceral scenes. I did not like Fur Babies at all though. Stowaway as such a good body horror idea behind it. The creativity of that one was nuts, my favore of this one

No Wake was brutal and hard to watch, but in a good way. God of Death portrayed the panic well, also was claustrophic with a good ending. Love the director of Dreamkill so that was great, very graphic and surreal. The wraparound was actually good, the absurd last shot stuck with me

I still liked this one, it's just a bit less memorable. Shredding was that good rock horror, the bhuta were cool. Suicide Bid had nice claustrophobic beginning but went on a bit too long for me. Ozzys Dungeon was odd and brutal, not sure if I loved or hated it. The rest were fine

Thank god they recovered from Viral. Storm Drain was nice and grimy with a good creature. I really enjoyed the buildup of the Empty Wake. The Subject is my favorite short from all of VHS, great body horror. Terror is cathartic and also has a good creature. Hail Ratmaa!

VHS Viral

Pretty dogshit. Dante the Great was stupid and not even found footage. Parallel Monsters was so ridiculous I laughed at least. Bonestorm was the only one watchable and was fine. The wraparound is hands down the worst and at least was laughably bad. Most enjoyment is unintentional lol

VHS 2 (Rewatch)

Better for sure. The idea for Phase 1 Clinical Trials freaks me out, I liked that more than most probably. Safe Haven was the best short by far, nailed the cult feeling with a great ending. The other two shorts I also enjoyed. It also has my favorite of the wraparound stories

Forgot how bro-y and how much SA this first one has, and that definitely makes it a bit uncomfortable. Aside from that, it's got a couple shorts I rather liked. 10/31/98 and Amatuer Night are worth it alone. They make good use of the short form, making a solitary moment

Okay this is was really stupid but fun enough. The not great special effects, odd acting, and super heavy handed theme made it feel like a Syfy movie. But in a good way

In a Violent Nature
6/10
Also conflicted on this one. It had some really good scenes and kills. The artsy elements like the lack of score are nice, but it does lead to dragging on a bit. Following the killers perspective was unique. Still enjoyed it though, maybe I'm just too uncultured for this

Ghostwatch

This one has a great ramp up over time. The news report format was a good way to present it. Felt like a real report, see why it caused some controversy. I probably would have gotten more out of this if I knew they were the real BBC crew of the time

Late Night With the Devil

My favorite new thing I watched. It excellently recreates the feeling of watching an old late night TV episode. The escalation and unsetteling feeling of things being wrong is peak. Own downside is the effects at the end look a little cheesy. Highly recommend

Hell House 4
7/10
Definitely the best since the first, but I don't think it's quite as effective. The main characters are kinda insufferable. There's some really good scary scenes though like the Zoom one. Don't like giving things like the clown costume meaning when they didn't have any before

Hell House 3
5/10
It's fine. I appreciate trying to go through a whole arc. I like the idea of where it goes, even if I don't like the execution so much. Drags a bit since it uses the same structure yet again, at least with a purpose this time. I'd suggest just stopping at the first.
