Keir Starmer shouldn't wait until the likely fiasco of the May local elections. If he has any concern for party and country, he should step aside now, giving his successor as long as possible to undo the damage of his disastrous premiership and restore hope in politics.

From the left?

Ignoring the Spanish ‘Camisas Azules’ — violent Falangist paramilitaries; or Mussolini’s Blackshirts; or the Portuguese ‘Camisas Azuis’ fascist militia.
And Oswald Mosley’s fascist Blackshirts in the UK; and who can forget those choirboys, the SA in Germany.

From the left my arse…

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) on the shooting of Charlie Kirk:

"Political violence, unfortunately, has ramped up in this country ... I think there are people who are fomenting it in this country. I think the president's rhetoric often foments it."

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.

Let’s make one thing clear from the start: Charlie Kirk was the victim of a shooting in a country where he, along with other right-wing extremist influencers, have been inciting violence for years. — Kirk is neither a martyr nor a hero, he is a cause.

I'm wondering: in 2028, when trump tries to put himself on the ballot for a third term, whether states are prepared to keep him off the ballot and what the Supreme Court will do. I think it's pretty clear cut, but I thought that about immunity, Dobbs, and section 3 of the 14th Amendment, too.

Newsom: "He doesn't play by a different set of rules. He doesn't believe in the rules. As a consequence, we need to disabuse ourselves of the way things have been done. It's not enough to just hold hands, have a candlelight vigil, talk about way the world should be...we have got to meet fire w/fire"

A rare bit of hopeful news that we so desperately need right now
That’s my town.

And if he succeeds in November, he’ll become only the second person of Muslim origin to become mayor of a major western city.

London and mayor Sadiq Khan applaud candidate Mamdani.
