I can't stop hate-posting about Graeber's bureaucracy book, but it's so annoying! How are administrators supposed to reach people, if it's not via e-mails? What could they have done differently for this scenario not to arise?

What's actual violence that's indirect? His example immediately afterwards suggests he means a sometimes-enacted threat of violence. But that's not really actual, and it undermines his criticism of abstract theories of violence. So I don't know, it's a head-scratcher. And everything is like that
