I talk about social media moderation and transphobia and how those two things tend to overlap.
Moderation work is only traumatizing if a social network is extremely poorly moderated.

It just takes a couple of volunteer mods for every few hundred users, as long as you have a strong sense of community and high standards for safety on your network.

I trust one of these two women to run a social media site.

Today (April 1st) is your last chance to cancel your #IIW40 tickets!

Why might you want to do that?

Founder and organizer of the #IIW, Kaliya or "Identity Woman," really hates trans people and very openly says some pretty horrifying things about them.

Update: Kaliya has "stepped down" in some form.

Still no update about if she'll be allowed to attend, or if she'll be profiting from the conference.

I mean "leave autistic kids alone" was at the bottom of a post about not taking suicidal ideation seriously in queer children, and how you should deny them health care.

I think it's pretty reasonable to assume that the parts of the Tweet are connected to each other, right?

Kaliya believes that trans genocide is justified, because some trans children want healthcare.

Imagine making a statement like that about any other marginalized group, and then expecting them to still show up at your conference.

This isn't a "disagreement".

This isn't just some policy disagreements, right?

Kaliya believes that queer suicide stats are a conspiracy theory "being used to blackmail parents".

This is a horrifying, extreme level of hatred of even trans children.

So this is definitely a step forward, but it's missing some pretty important information:

Will Kaliya attend (or benefit financially from) the upcoming #FediForum session in any capacity?

Based on this statement, it seems pretty clear that the answer is yes.
