Scam alert: Feds getting calls/emails about “urgent” TSP or retirement changes. OPM/TSP never ask for login or SSN by phone/email. Pressure to act now? Red flag. When in doubt, check tsp.gov.

Shutdown fatigue + Open Season = overwhelm.
Fatigue isn’t failure—it means you’ve carried too much, for too long.
What’s one thing that would make Open Season easier for you?

Shutdown = missed TSP contributions & loan payments. No panic, TSP kept your loan current. Repayments resume and are spread out. Can’t “catch up” on missed contributions, but you can adjust your rate now. Don’t “set and forget”, check your fund mix.

Shutdown over, but Open Season deadline (Dec 8) isn’t moving. FEHB premiums up 12.3%. If you missed premiums, they’ll be caught up, no lost coverage. Overwhelmed? You’re not alone. Community threads are sharing plan tips & support.

USPS is open, paychecks are steady, but stress is real.

Long hours, job cut rumors, and burnout are hitting hard.

Shutdown means missed TSP deposits and lost agency matches, not lost balances.

Each skipped contribution means less growth later.

When pay resumes, increase your contribution if you can.

Shutdown panic? Here’s the truth:
FEHB & FEGLI stay in force, TSP stays invested, and pension checks keep coming.
What’s truly at risk: missed pay and stress, not your core benefits.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟭: TSP loan (4.375%, up to $50K) vs credit union (0%, up to $6K)?

TSP = money stops growing Credit union = $0 cost

Need ≤$6K? Credit union wins. Need more? TSP beats credit cards.

Not about "right" choice. About 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 situation.

Day 17 of the shutdown. Courts go unfunded today. Senate staff lose pay in 72 hours. Some federal workers are still paid. Most are not.

Backpay is legally required for federal employees. Contractors? Not guaranteed.

This isn’t just a standoff. It’s a paycheck crisis.

Furloughed feds aren’t losing their TSP match—but if backpay lands in 2026, they lose 2025 contribution space forever.

The real issue? Not mechanics. It’s whether OMB follows the law.

Don’t buy the Reddit panic. Know your rights.

My client didn’t wait 60 days to react to her RIF notice.

She had a strategy on Day 1—while others were waiting on HR.

I gave her the checklist I now share with all federal employees facing RIF:

4,200 RIF notices issued across 7 agencies. If you have TSP loan:

Separation = 𝟵𝟬-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 deadline
Can't pay = taxable distribution + 10% penalty

Example: $35K loan = $10K+ in taxes/penalties

Check balance 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬. Know rollover options.

Day 13: FEHB coverage continues during furlough and you can't drop it (OPM verified).

Premiums accumulate, deducted from first check.

$500/period over 6 weeks = $3,000 hit.

With back pay uncertain + 4,200 RIFs = planning crisis.
