63: Here There Be Gerblins (The Adventure Zone #1) by a whole bunch of McElroys

annual holiday reminder, female cardinals are brown so any time you see two red cardinals snuggling on a branch, they are boyfriends

61 and bringing us to to speed for the moment is book 4 of The Sisters of Dorley. What a sprawling story this has turned into

I wonder if I also saw it recommended somewhere else or if I just thought I knew better 😆

60: The Honjin Murders by Seishi Yokomizo. I thought this was a @mattufford.bsky.social recommendation but realized halfway through it’s more of ‘a book Matt has read.’ I disliked the twist and agree the characters were flat

I was caught off guard by the amount of violent robot murder in 58: The Wild Robot by Peter Brown and then underwhelmed by the relative lack of robot murder in 59: All Systems Red by Martha Wells ( aka Murderbot #1). I might come back to Murderbot at some point just to think about Alex Skarsgard

55: The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole

56: Precious Rubbish by Kayla E

57: The Burning God by RF Kuang. I think I liked each successive book in the poppy war trilogy less than the one before it. Looking forward to reading Katabasis eventually (I liked Babel)

Thank you! Great photo

Was a little worried about whiplash going from 53: The Overstory by Richard Powers (3.5⭐️) to 54: Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin(4.5⭐️), but I just decided the plague in the latter was caused by eco collapse and it was seamless. Looking forward to reading more GFM in 2026

51: Through the Woods by E.M. Carroll. Read this for a book club I didn’t end up getting to attend but loved the art

53: Pride, Pain, & Petticoats by Abigail Trusity. Another fun one from the queer lights bundle

50: Moonflow by Bitter Karella. An enjoyable non-normie book. I should read more stories about mushroom cults.

49: This is Happpiness by Niall Williams. An enjoyable normie book

48: Pagan Babies by Elmore Leonard. I read this multiple times while traveling in 2002 and am shocked by how little of it I remembered. It’s fine.

46: Spent by Alison Bechdel. Empathized a lot with this, it felt very of the moment.

I think I already posted about 47 Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab so I’ll just say that it’s good again and move on

45: East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Legally required to read this due to place of birth. Mostly mad to have been made nostalgic for a place that doesn’t exist. Adam-Lee shipper.
