This is a reference to the holiday schedule of the Czech Republic, which celebrates both the celebration of Czechoslovak independence (on October 28) as well as the dissolution of Czechoslovakia (on January 1).

how about the Trans Europ Express? they were originally hauled by these really funky looking diesel units
