Q for authors: what fee should an unpublished author reasonably expect when submitting a short story to publications? I’ve seen a list, but the payment for acceptance seems wildly inconsistent. I know it’s not a guarantee my story would even be picked up, but I’m just looking for a bit of advice.

Finished my first short story and immediately started another. Feeling good.
