Great egret fishing on a dark background. It was successful and caught a small fish with the tip of its bill.

Female hooded merganser swimming through a marshes reeds with a crowd of its chicks. Dare I say she looks proud?

Brown creeper climbing the trunk of a tree. I’m surprised I got this shot, as those guys are really fast climbers!

my cat is sad.
no one else in his family is a cat
we are all human except for him
he is excluded from most things
and no one tells him why
he just wants to play
and be loved
he looks at us with wonder
and disappointment
he says hello i am a cat what is my existence
what is that / why it and not me / please can you look at me
and love me too
can i have some of your food please im sorry i dont like my food so much

The Orange
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.
And that orange it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park This is peace and contentment. It's new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all my jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I'm glad I exist.

The bird building her home on your windowsill has had every nest destroyed before.
The spider that is delicately weaving a silken masterpiece has had every single thread broken before.
And despite it all, they try again.

Earlier this year we went down to southern Illinois to catch the eclipse. I was committed to just experiencing the moment without a lens… but the darn event was so long that I took a few shots anyways. They turned out kinda cool! #sun #moon #eclipse #photography

A photo of the 2024 solar eclipse. Due to a lack of technique, the eclipse made a double exposure, with several overlapping light patterns— it looks like Jupiter on the left side, rolling into a ink black cat eye shape in the middle, followed by a ring of light on the right. The right hand side also displays solar prominences. This photo was initially discarded due to these imperfections, but my spouse convinced me to keep it as it is aesthetically pleasing.

A photo of the 2024 solar eclipse, taken with a long birding lens. This is a more traditional shot, with the moon as an inky black circle surrounded by a small ring of the sun’s corona gently cascading outwards. I don’t have the best photography equipment and spent no time researching how to take this type of photo, so I think I got really, really lucky.

Something that I struggle with is putting myself out there. This is something I would like to change, as birds are a blessing and deserve to bring joy to everyone. Even if my technique and equipment has improved over the last few years, I will still post my earlier photos. Wish me luck! 🪶 #birds
