You can still pay private insurance to cover faster treatment & things not yet approved by the commissioning council (NiCE), but no-one ever worries about choosing between health and being able to afford to eat, pay rent/mortgage etc.

To me that's crazy. Here, you may have to wait for treatment, depending on what it is, but pretty much everything is covered without payment at point of delivery (yeah, we pay more in tax, but nowhere near Insurance+co-pay levels). Plus prescription costs are capped at £9.90 per item, whatever it is

This is what astounds me every time I hear about US healthcare. I know the NHS here is far from perfect, but no-one is ever going to go bankrupt just because they get cancer.
