So exactly 16 days after govt introduced bans on 6 water companies paying bonuses, including @SouthWestWater
fat cat CEO Susan Davy of South West Water fame gets paid nearly £200,000 in shares bonuses.

That didn't take long then. As I said at the time, nothing but performative politics.

So apart from wanting to be exempt from environmental laws and to have any current or future fines wavered @thameswater
now also want the right “to raise prices at any time before 2030”.

The CommonsEFRA are particularly scathing of Ofwat's and EnvAgency's performance.

"Not only has the regulatory system failed to protect water resources from such irresponsible leadership, but it also lacks oversight over critical elements of it."

For those that guessed Ratcliffe on Soar, respect, you win. 👏👏👏

I was on my way to Nottingham to speak to the Barbel Society annual conference which was a real treat.

And thank’s to everyone at the society for the utterly fabulous Fred Crouch Award. Total surprise and truly, truly honoured. 😎

Can anyone explain to me, ie, show me irrefutable proof that this stuff actually does anything to “boost water quality for fish and river life”?
June 9, 2025 at 11:41 AM
Now about the fraud that’s being committed against the environment and every single person in the country by water companies, how you getting on with that fraud?

LIAR, LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!

"This is the largest penalty Ofwat has ever issued," screamed the headlines.

Blatantly, and I suspect deliberately not true, it's a lie.

Former CEO of @Ofwat
Cathryn Ross still works at @thameswater
as Director of Strategy and External Affairs.

Will she I wonder be one of the fact cats who qualifies for a 50% of salary retention bonus? 👇

I see the "Independent" Water Commission has a new member appointed. Douglas Millican former CEO of Scottish Water who caused outrage when he shared almost £1 million in bonuses with 2 colleagues on top of their already 6 figure salaries. The average salary in Scotland is £38k.

England current has just 13 stretches of inland river designated as bathing water
Under govt's new proposals not one of them would have been designated, every single application would have been rejected.
This morning all of the current river bathing spots in England are carrying a Do Not Swim

Brilliant, brilliant bit of questioning, and detective work at the by andrewpakes
Q: "Does the amount of raw sewage that gets pumped out by yourselves as a company have a direct link, a directly link, to how you pay dividends?"
A: "I'd probably say no."

Appears Heidi Mottram, CEO of NorthumbrianH2O has also put the spanner in the works of govt's so called £100 billion private investment claims.
According to her £5bn of the £6bn they're spending over the next 5 years is coming directly from bill payers pockets.

So much for private investment then
March 11, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Interesting morning at the CommonsEFRA hearing.

According to the regulator Northumbrian is failing to meet leakage targets, per capita consumption, supply interruptions, drinking water quality, pollutions incidents and sewage works compliance.
March 11, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Interesting morning.
Tory MP Saqib Bhatti makes a complaint to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards about LibDem MP Charlie Maynard using his position as a MP to be part of the Thames Water High Court Special Administration hearing even though Charlie appears to have sought the advice of the

Imagine you're a board member of @Ofwat
and you wake up on a Monday morning to discover that MPs have just tabled an amendment to abolish you and the organisation you run.

No, it's not a bad dream, it just happened, but will govt ever allow it?

While WCs continue to dump millions of hours worth of sh*t into our rivers your friendly reminder that even treated sewage can contain a whole host incredibly dangerous, lethal pathogens like Cholera,Hepatitis,Salmonella,Giardia,Polio and Tetanus some of which can persist in the environment for YEARS
January 28, 2025 at 3:38 PM
Now that man's angry and clearly justifiably so.

WCs have a legal obligation to build, operate and maintain sewage systems capable of "Effectually dealing, by means of sewage disposal works or otherwise, with the contents of those sewers".

Wouldn't that be right @thameswater?
January 8, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Now there's an idea, well said sir, "In the name of God, go!"
January 8, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Happy New Year ya all.

I've asked this question before but without resolution.
Anyone know who owns / controls the fishing rights on the River Lea at Hartham Common, Hertford?

I've check the Land Registry but from what I can see no one seem to own the river bed. Am I wrong?
January 7, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Thames Water's Markyate sewage works dumped sh*t into the River Ver in Hertfordshire, a chalk stream, for over 3,000 hours last year.

The latest bit of sewage dumping started on the 12th Dec and is stil going strong 626 hours, 50 min, 20 secs later. HAPPY NEW YEAR. @VerValleySoc

Right it's Tuesday, what did I miss?

The view from 500 miles up at 4:00am this morning as Russian weather satellite Meteor 2 passed over London.
