When you wake up early and open Duolingo then remember it’s early and you’re on a Bluetooth speaker so you quickly switch apps so Duolingo doesn’t play that loud intro and wake up your beloved but when you go back later you discover to your shock and horror OH NO YOU’VE JUST KNOCKED DUO UNCONSCIOUS

Support email from me to CARROT dated 23 February 2025: “Any chance the app can dynamically correct the Gulf of America garbage going on? (Also important for folks who are on the actual ocean right now.) Thank you.” Accompanying app screen shot is from the so-called “Gulf of America”, 63°F, “That cloud looks like a snake eating its own tail.” Response from CARROT support dated 23 February 2025: “ Unfortunately my location data comes straight from Apple’s location database, so I don’t have any control over how it shows up on certain map screens that use Apple Maps. But I *can* overwrite the names returned for your current location, I’ll look into doing that in a future update. Love, CARROT”. The latest CARROT mission: “Find the Gulf of Mexico.” The map has been given an overlay with “[Gulf of Mexico]” in square brackets and a monospace font on a black background, as if corrected by someone with a DYMO label maker. Answer: Gulf of Mexico American Mediterranean Sea “The Gulf of Mexico is a partially landlocked body of water on the southeastern periphery of the North American continent. “It recently got a stupid new name, and all the mapping data providers caved and started using the stupid new name, but screw that: it will always be the Gulf of Mexico in my book.”

I still have my Atari 800 with 48K RAM. Not pictured: Assembler Editor & BASIC cartridges, 410 Program Recorder, 1050 Disk Drive, Indus GT Drive, and all the cables/boxen. Alas, my collection of disks has since disappeared into the ether, and I sold my Hayes SmartModem. Let’s hear it for emulators!

I live in New Jersey. Yes, there are drones. Also no there are not huge drones or swarms of them. And now folks are scrambling for their 15 minutes of fame in spotting them everywhere. There are also folks shining lasers into the sky at aircraft (PSA everyone would you please STOP DOING THAT).
