GG was launched as an alternative to Belt & Road. Leaders would say "this doesn't come with strings attached"

I found this from EU in Liberia a month ago: "𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒏𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅"

I am not sure the lure of Global Gateway is enough to tear developing countries away from the affordability of Huawei, given how underwhelming it has been.

But the fact that they are willing to weaponise it in that way speaks to a big mentality shift in the commission

This bit is pretty out there:

"Commission is also considering measures to dissuade non-EU countries from relying on Chinese vendors, including by withholding Global Gateway funding from nations that use the grants for projects involving Huawei equipment"

Tech chief Virkkunen wants to convert Commission’s 2020 recommendation to stop using high-risk vendors in mobile networks into a legal requirement

Remember: Currently there is no legal requirement to remove Huawei, I guess the countries would have to agree to adopt this so...

Confirmation that any Nexperia chips with military end use will not be shipped from China to Europe, which could surely hamper ongoing efforts to ramp up defence spend.

But the second part implies the Commission told Mofcom it will try to get the Dutch to reverse course...

Today China's foreign ministry defended the CG in Osaka, according to Kyodo

"China on Monday defended comments made by a Chinese diplomat criticizing Takaichi's recent remarks about possible involvement in a Taiwan emergency, saying Tokyo had hinted at military intervention"
November 10, 2025 at 9:22 AM
Last Friday Takaichi said that in parliament that China using armed force against Taiwan could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan, allowing the country to mobilize the Japanese armed forces under its security laws.

Took me about 10 mins to scroll through @xuejianosaka's torrent posts + retweets from the last 24 hours or so looking for the incriminating tweet - looks like it may have been deleted?

But this guy is giving Beijing's CG in Belfast a run for her money as most active wolf warrior

Nope, I had the spuds in it, but in the other oven. That was the second load of fat 😎
