It’s been a good week for rewatches, not going to lie

I buy less discs these days (my to-watch pile was becoming unreasonable!) but these two pre-orders arrived recently: an under-celebrated John Carpenter meta-movie & possibly the most brutal film I’ve ever seen. Classics both.

Rewatch of the peerless AUDITION. My @letterboxd.social reviews are nothing if not consistent.

Got my contributor copy of @secondsightfilms.bsky.social’s release of THE FLORIDA PROJECT, for which I’ve written an essay on one of our greatest living actors - Mr Willem Dafoe. Really proud of this one.

Thanks again to Chris, @phillipescott.bsky.social & Kat Ellinger for having me onboard!

New tattoo day! A beautiful upper arm Jesus by the incomparable Kris at Vivid Ink Coventry (plus filling in a space in my inner elbow). Right hand sleeve almost complete.

(First shot is an old tattoo which was never finished 20+ years ago and acted as the guide for today)

Just finished these novellas by Seishi Yokomizo. ‘Murder...’ was so-so (a little light on characterisation, too focused on plot mechanics) but the second story ‘Why Did The Well Wheel Creak?’ was a stone-cold banger: a gothic horror told in letters and steeped in dread. Definitely worth checking out

Just finished @stephenking.bsky.social’s THE OUTISDER - absolutely floored. I was gripped, moved to tears and enotionally wrecked by an ending which lands like a ten pound jack hammer. Best novel I’ve read all year.

Well that may jump (probably plain part because I was reading an article about paranormal phenomena when my phone started blaring)

Perfect Saturday afternoon film.

Remembering the absolute A+ subtitles on the DVD of JASON GOES TO HELL.

I’ll give you my last 9 watched, and frankly it’s been a rocky road. Using the full gamut of star ratings this month!

Very privileged to have contributed an essay on the legend that is Willem Dafoe to this gorgeous @secondsightfilms.bsky.social release of THE FLORIDA PROJECT (also here’s a pic of me at the Magic Castle itself: yes I’m the cool dad who dragged his kids there whilst on holiday).
