There is something deeply amusing about musklings coming here and realizing there’s no algorithm to boost their rage bait, which was their main advantage.

resolved: people who insist that all social media sites must be places where users are constantly encountering and arguing with people over fundamental disagreement do so because their actual, real lives are echo chambers where they do not encounter any meaningful difference from day-to-day.

Don’t want to jinx it and have the interest dwindle like threads did but bluesky is doing it for me. Anything that gives me a semblance of the order that existed on Twitter before the chaos is welcome.

It has been very interesting to watch as Bluesky has overcome the Worst Person Problem (theories on how it did it are welcome) while, at the same time, the Trump Administration builds the world's most powerful Worst Person Problem AT SPEED. </>

We called it the "Worst People Problem." It's very hard to build a social platform if your founding instinct is "THAT OTHER PLATFORM SUCKS" because the people you attract will be the ones who are more radical and whiney, and those people don't even agree with /each other./ 2/x

John and I identified this phenomenon ages ago, where upstart social media platforms had a hard time working because the first wave of people to leave a platform are the ones who have the most radical positions, are the most aggrieved, and it's very hard to build a coalition of people like that. 1/x
