Great, cure cancer. Just don't push it into our daily lives. And maybe we could have a conversation about taxing our energy grid before you do anything.

I wish Rod would acknowledge his own pathology. He thought the authoritarianism overreach would definitely come from the left, but when he discovered it was coming from the right he joined in. The guy wrote a book 'Live not by lies'
December 15, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Maybe. Also possible is that it revealed how many people just want to act shitty to people. What I do know is that one party went full gainer into an abyss and the other pulled up.

Five seconds of birtherism should have been enough for people. How can anyone look at these people that normalized it.
December 15, 2025 at 9:15 PM
That era made me so cynical about politics that I just wanted to wash my hands of it all. Nothing like I had hoped people would discuss issues of national import. Just gross.
December 15, 2025 at 5:12 PM
I just see it as a matter of both scale and type of pres power. Like subverting Congress or ordering prosecutions or mass surveillance of our people. Clintons' was during a civil lawsuit.

point taken

One was an abuse of presidential power

Iran Contra? "I just can't remember these top secret missions"
December 15, 2025 at 4:47 PM
As it is I would not trust any of us to write the history book.
December 15, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Well, I have seen many stories lately about how if the Dems would have done this one thing the Rs would not be this bad. Like Bork to Garland. If we want to draw such hard lines on cause and effect It leads to the hamster wheel of resentment.
December 15, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Did you mean 'was not justified'. It was an abuse of the impeachment clause full stop. I saw them as an aggrieved party that thought they would be in power forever. That era was definitely a springboard for the authoritarianism of today with gov shutdowns, Star report, moral majority.

Maybe the death threats?

He and his wife also made the mistake of speaking up about sexual abuse. He found rot from top to bottom at his church as a result.

I'm sure you are correct, but French argues in good faith. I don't agree with many of his views, but the man has been thru the ringer. That's all.
December 14, 2025 at 3:43 PM
French is not a bigot. He went to Ethiopia to adopt his daughter. I actually feel for Mr. French. He has felt the full brunt of maga hate for speaking up on various issues.
December 14, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Yes, the false equivalence is the size of Texas. I would argue there were better grounds for impeaching Reagan. He subverted congress' authority and lied under oath about not remembering super top secret missions.
December 13, 2025 at 9:53 PM
I am your age and so watched Cspan and read all about it. I viewed it as purely political to damage a popular president. Which was proven out by the sheer surge of popularity of Clinton post impeachment. It never had to do with official duties, which I know is not a requirement but preferred.
December 13, 2025 at 8:32 PM
I can't back you on the second point. I do not see this current republican party as the type to even entertain any type of precedent that might have set. Just 'protect trump don't think lizard brain'
December 13, 2025 at 8:20 PM
These people cannot speak with credibility on trump's corruption if they wave away blatant corruption within their own ranks.

“Under our system of laws, you’re still innocent until proven guilty,” said Rep. Troy Carter (D-La.). “He was indicted but never went to trial — was never proven to be guilty, never proven to be innocent, because there was no trial, but the pardon overrides that. That’s how the ball bounces.”

This issue really hits me in the gut. The repudiation must be complete. Thanks for highlighting what needs to be done.
December 13, 2025 at 4:46 PM
A senate that would confirm this cabinet does not take their oath seriously.
December 13, 2025 at 4:19 PM
I hope some day you win this fight Mark. People that only read headlines will always be misinformed as to the actual content because the headlines too often do not reflect the article.
December 13, 2025 at 4:14 PM
Leadership? These people just can't help themselves. Jeffries was praising Eric Adams a while back.
